Local knowledge, global expertise

Hi. I’m Yasushi Miyamoto of PKF Hibiki Audit Corporation in Japan. Currently I’m working for PKF HK as a secondee from the beginning of this June.
My first impression of Hong Kong is it’s very hot, raining every day and the air conditioner is too strong. I thought I shouldn’t have come here in summer. Other than that, Hong Kong is so nice, very developed city, and there are a lot of places to visit such as the Peak, SOHO, Stanley, and so on. I enjoy sightseeing on weekends.
Related to jobs, there are a lot of differences from my country. In Japan, small private entities aren’t required for audit, so we rarely have the chance to audit small companies. On the other hand, audit is required for every company in Hong Kong, and auditors here spend a lot of time for such small private companies. Since small companies usually don’t have enough knowledge, auditors need to direct how to make financial statement properly in many cases. Other than that, common accounting standard in Hong Kong is IFRS/HKFRS, but we use J-GAAP in most of the cases in Japan. Furthermore, this is the first time for me to work for a foreign company whose common language is English/Chinese. These are new experience for me, and I hope I can learn many things during my stay in Hong Kong.
